The result of the move request was: moved. I'll move BIA out of the way first to save history. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 23:51, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
Burma National Army → Burma Independence Army – This article covered the history if the Burma Independence Army, which was later renamed the Burma National Army. The page Burma Independence Army redirected to here as well. However, there exists another page called the Burmese Independence Army, which covers exactly the same information as this page. I previously merged and expanded the two articles into one under the title Burma Independence Army. This was revert and I was advised to move the page in the proper way.
I have now put the article I created/merged on the Burma National Army page, but I suggest that the Burmese Independence Army now be removed since all of its information is now also on this page. I also suggest that this article would be called Burma Independence Army for the reasons that: this is the common name of the army (Burma, not Burmese) and this was the name of the army in its most active and well known form. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Burma-Independence-Army https://www.irrawaddy.com/opinion/commentary/man-behind-burma-independence-army.html http://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803095536744
Both articles (now this single article) also cover the army by far the most during its period as the "Burma Independence Army" rather than "Burma National Army". So I would suggest that the combined article on this page is moved to Burma Independence Army, while Burma National Army and Burmese Independence Army redirect to it. - I was one of the reviewers who reverted the previous edits. Just for clarity, this was purely a technicality to reverse a cut'n'paste move. I have no fundamental objection to the article being renamed over the redirect at Burma National Army. Lithopsian (talk) 21:18, 1 January 2019 (UTC)
- Support for now to complete the merger of overlapping articles. Probably a single article for all the wartime Burmese forces under the Japanese is warranted, but I am not certain what is the best title. I have added to the dab page Burma Army to clarify the succession of Burma Armies. Srnec (talk) 21:36, 1 January 2019 (UTC)

I moved the old Burmese Independence Army to talk:Burmese Independence Army/old and its talk page to talk:Burmese Independence Army/olddiscuss. ErikHaugen (talk | contribs) 00:02, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

"Post-Colonial"?
[edit]The Burma Independence Army was, in practice, mostly an effort to supplant British rule over Burma with Japanese rule over Burma under a nominal independence that really meant ongoing foreign rule, only by Asians rather than Whites. The factualness of this statement is shown by how seamless the transition was to its being the Burma Defence Force undes Japanese auspices during WW II. This is not to suggest that the rank-and-file members who joined were anything other than genuine Burmese patriots; there is little doubt that the vast majority actually were, but their leaders were knowing tools of the Japanese. No doubt some of them saw this as nothing more than a transitory period leading to real independence, but others were willing participants in the concept of the "Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere" and more than content to be the Burmese leaders within it. This idea is reinforced by the subsequent self-serving nature of the Burmese Armed Forces, whose leaders have consistently shown a propensity towards their own advancement and development at the expense of the country, not alongside it. 2600:1004:B109:BB50:C83B:65DE:7249:2B60 (talk) 15:49, 4 September 2021 (UTC)
